It was essentially an economic tour plus a state visit to China, so that that particular aspect dominated the report which Mr. Mahabir and I
prepared for the Cabinet on Thursday and from which I prepared the statement to Parliament on Friday. The statement to Parliament, necessarily full of details ( we were reporting on how taxpayers’ money was spent), full of pertinent appendices which will be of some concern, at least to the businessmen in the community, has already been printed, so that there will be no necessity for me to go over the same ground and take the same approach to the subject that I took on Friday. Yesterday’s discussion was essentially political in the sense that we were reporting on the extent to which this particular tour fitted in with the broad economic and political objectives which we as a party had stated to the country and which were in a sense enshrined in our various 5-year plans; so we reported on that.
