Title: Statement By The Prime Minister In The House Of Representatives On June 30 On Trinidad And Tobago’s Membership In OPEC
Author Williams, Eric Eustace,
Abstract: On behalf of the Cabinet, and on its authority, I make the following statement for general information. On Monday, June 26, 1972 Trinidad and Tobago became the twelfth Member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, familiarly known as OPEC.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) was founded in 1960. It was the outcome of a Conference held in Baghdad
in September of that year by the then most important oil exporting countries, namely, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, to discuss methods of combating unilateral price reductions by the oil companies in 1959 and 1960 which were incompatible with the interests of those countries.
