Prime Minister’s Christmas Message to the Nation – December 1972

Title: Prime Minister’s Christmas Message to the Nation – December 1972
Author Williams, Eric Eustace,
Abstract: What we are facing in respect of these and other areas of national concern is that very few people are prepared to do themselves something
constructive in respect of matters that they criticize. The absence of community spirit and community discipline, and even of personal self-
discipline, has become very noticeable in the country at all levels. In its worst form it is seen in the disappearance of the arrangement
conventional up to a few years ago whereby the community provided its own labour in the construction of community centres and not infrequently in the provision of small water mains in isolated areas. In another form it is evident in the irregularities in registration for work on relief projects – a matter which, in the larger context of productivity in the public sector, we have been quietly and unobtrusively attacking, with some success during the past year. The measures already taken are now being extended and intensified.
