Title: Message By The Prime Minister Of Trinidad And Tobago On The Occasion Of The Visit To Trinidad By The Jamaican Folk Singers – 31st July, 1972
Author Williams, Eric Eustace,
Abstract: The group’s performance marks the start of the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago. “In the annals of West Indian history, August 1962 will always stand out as a month of evolution and achievement. For it was in the month of August ten years ago, that Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago both emerged from under colonial rule and took their rightful places in the ranks of the Independent nations of the international community, We in Trinidad and Tobago therefore, always celebrate our independence mindful of the similarity of the circumstances surrounding the independence of our sister island of Jamaica. This common past is particularly relevant this year as we celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of Independence – a significant landmark and a time for reflection on past accomplishments and for projection of future goals.
