| Abstract: | As Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, I am happy to extend most cordial greetings to our Hindu community on the occasion of this joyous Festival of Lights, the Festival of Divali, now being celebrated here for the sixth year as a national holiday. The central message of Divali – the message of the triumph of light over darkness, of knowledge over ignorance, of truth over untruth, of good over evil – remains as significant as ever, not only for our Hindu community but the community at large. Again and again, down the years, Divali bids us pause, if only temporarily, to turn our minds from things material to things spiritual, to seek illumination of heart and mind to pursue the path that leads to perfection. |
