CASLE is no stranger to the Commonwealth Caribbean. In fact, it was a Guyanese, the late Aubrey Barker, who chaired the Conference in
London in 1968 which laid the foundation for its formal birth in 1969 and in that year the f1rst General Assembly of CASLE was held in the Caribbean in Guyana. I am happy to welcome, especially to Trinidad and Tobago, Sir Oliver Chesterton and Mr. Robert Steele, the President and Secretary of CASLE, who have held the confidence of the members of the Association by reason of their leadership, scholarship and vision.
