Title: Address By Dr. Eric Williams, Prime Minister And Minister Of Finance At The Opening Of The Symposium On The Mobilisation Of Domestic Financial Resources, At The Trinidad Hilton On May 1 & 2 1976
Author Williams, Eric Eustace,
Abstract: The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development which met in Geneva in 1964 can usefully be taken as the point of departure
for action by the developing countries of the so-called Third World to alter radically their economic situation. Over the intervening period the debate has continued at a variety of levels, new international organisations have come into being, but the lot of the developing countries by and large has not improved meaningfully. Economic inequality and dependence have manifested themselves in a number of ways. For instance, growth in the developing countries has still remained very much a by-product of economic activity in the developed industrialised countries, with the result that recession in Western Europe a~ North America has had serious repercussions on the trade flows of the Third World countries.
