| Abstract: | Mr. Chairman., Mr. President, Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen: A week from today the World Population Conference of the United Nations will convene in Bucharest in Rumania. The World Food Conference of the United Nations will follow in Rome in November. Last April a Special General Assembly of the United Nations considered the whole question of the increasing prices of raw materials and agreed to the establishment of a fertilizer pool for the assistance of the developing countries. This is the climate in which your Caribbean Veterinary Association meets here in Trinidad. I welcome the opportunity afforded to me by your Association to address the Convention, and I have selected as my theme “Food and Population in the Age of Independence and Decolonization”. (I’m sure His Excellency The President of Gambia will permit me if I speak not as a Veterinary Doctor). |
